Yes, Planet-Safe® Labware is suitable for composting in an industrial compost facility. Both Planet-Safe® cell culture dishes and microplates have been evaluated per ISO 20200 and were found to satisfy ASTM-D6400 testing which requires, at minimum, a 90% weight loss after 84 days of compost exposure.

Soil containing composted Planet-Safe® material was tested for phytotoxicity per OECD 208. Results showed no reduction in the expected sample germination and growth indicating that, when composted properly, Planet-Safe® items are not harmful to plants.

While Planet-Safe® Labware will not remain structurally intact when autoclaved, studies suggest that PLA is autoclaved it will breakdown more quickly in an industrial composting environment.
